Stopped in at the Manhattan Classic Car Club last night. Met up with RJ who did a great job on this website. The 2015 Corvette Zo6 was on display along with some of the other cars in the garage.
I hire models occasionally. Usually I just draw in pencil. Pretty laid back. I like to treat my models as the guest of honor. I try to especially pay attention to the temperature, but I'm getting them coffee or whatever their beverage of choice. I'm also usually friends with my models. Sometimes it's confusing. It's a nice bit of confusion as some models have posed for me over ten year periods! They invite me to their parties, performances. I never assume that they have chosen to model exclusively as their career. One turned out to be an opera singer, an actress in movies, a police officer, dancers, accountants, and more than a few to be really great artists! When I have a new model it's always a little exciting because in the back of my mind I think this person is probably going to be a fascinating person that I get to know before they are famous.
Some figure drawings I did at Spring Street Studios over the weekend. Some times it's hit and miss when I'm drawing from life. Mainly because I don't do it as regularly as I should and want.
Two figures is a challenge I enjoy. Proportions get skewed because of how you perceive one figure's shape. Sometimes I've found that I'll see a small thin girl and a man who looks thicker and then you realize she isn't as small as you thought and he wasn't as large.
My friend came by to model for some painting ideas a few weeks ago. After a few scotches we were trying different looks. I must use the gas mask in something!
This painting might not look like this the next time I post this again. It's own mother might not even recognize it. Much like the progress of a painting, the title might go through some different looks.
